Bulverde, Texas Photographer

Updated: Jan 13, 2022

If you've landed here, I assume you are interested in hearing a bit about how to find a good photographer. For me, I love photographing young adults on the cusp of a huge life event! Nothing is more impactful and inspiring than a high school or college senior full of zest, style, smarts and creativity. BUT, how does one go about finding a good photographer that can capture all that greatness and deliver what you expect?

SO, where to start? There really are so many options! But it doesn't have to be overwhelming. Here, in the Texas Hill Country, there are many incredibly talented artists. Each with their own specialty, photo and business style, and personality.... sooo, how do you know what's what?

First I suggest starting to pay attention to what you like about photographs of people. Do you like how bright it is, or how dark and moody it is? Color or black and white? Casual or Formal? How about the focus of the subject... are the images mostly of a landscape or surrounding and the subject is small and subtle or is the person the majority of the image, like a close-up? Answering these kinds of questions can help you narrow down the photographers, based on photography style.

I'm a fan of shopping local!

So, doing a quick search for "photographers near me" is a good idea. Following that up with looking into some websites and reading what they have to say. This should give you a pretty good feel for them and if you are thinkin "oh yeah, I like that", then reach out! Send that photog a direct message, email or my favorite... call them. Nothing will tell you quicker if you will vibe with the photographer, than a chat.

I'm going to be real honest, not every combo of people can carry on a good, flowing conversation. Sometimes, personalities clash and awkwardness happens which leads to more fumbling and bumbling. You know it... we have all been in a conversation where things were just a bit off. So, by calling said individual... you will either like them more or not and move on. Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy! Bam! Done!

The details are next.

Once you've got a short list of photographers you like because of their style, then comparing the nuts and bots of what each offers will further narrow down your final photogs. Just as each artist has their own style, each photographer runs their business differently. It's key to understanding what it is that you are wanting these photos for so you know what to look for when hearing/reading the details of a photographer's services.

And guess what?!

You don't really have to know exactly what you want at the beginning...

.....all you really have to know is that you want to have the professional photos taken!

A good photographer will ask you all the right questions and can guide you to the right location at the right time, with the right wardrobe to create stunning photos for you.

Now, all you have to do is book it! And know that said photographer was hired for a good reason and will capture photos you will treasure. So have fun and enjoy your amazing portraits.

PSA

Don't wait. Book the photographer. Any photographer. You will get photos you cherish no matter who took them or how you went about getting them. You will most likely look at those photos years down the road and give yourself a mental hug for the gift. For real. It's happened to me. I will be sifting through a mound of something, get distracted by the bookshelf and end up sitting down to flip the pages of an album. I am immediately thankful! Immediately, I feel a sense of peace and pride for the people in those pictures. That's no small thing. But, that's also just me. Find what gives you that immediate "I'm so thankful for this..." feeling.

If your thing, like me, is printed photos of your loved ones you will cherish and pass down for generations in that collection of treasured memorabilia you are proud of... yeah, I get you!
